Costa Rica Ecotourism

Ecotourism has been instrumental in ensuring the health of Costa Rica's delicate ecosystem.

In the past rainforest was considered “wasteland”, now Costa Rica is a global leader in natural conservation. This was done by making the well being of the natural environment in Costa Rica a profitable business, this enabled Costa Ricans to protect over a 1/4 of the land mass.

While traveling to collect footage for one of our projects in Costa Rica we (Blind Monk and Anywhere Costa Rica) wanted to gain more insight into ecotourism to tell that story.

For several days we traveled to different areas along the Caribbean coastline of Costa Rica.

This particular video is set in Tortuguero, Costa Rica, where we met with the prominent conservationist & ecotourism promoter, Rodolfo Vieto.

Rodolfo spoke with us in great detail about the sea change moving Costa Rica from an area of rapid deforestation into the premiere ecotourism destination that is now. He has an incredible wealth of knowledge regarding the flora and fauna of all regions in Costa Rica; quite literally, he is a full-volume human encyclopedia.

We collected over ten hours of footage both in the wild and in more formal interview settings with Rodolfo. This video could have been made into a short documentary.

Watch it. He's one slick fella, and one of the nicest people with whom I've ever visited.
